Monday Menu

In an attempt to organize, I plan our meals for the week and do the grocery shopping on Monday evenings.  We tend to sketch out 3 dinners for the weekdays and leave in an easy meal as a buffer.  Fridays & Saturdays are planned, but typically we'll go out for dinner.  Sundays we cook, but it usually requires a separate grocery trip.

Monday: Quinoa with veggies, caramelized brussels sprouts
Tuesday: Mostaccioli alla caprese
Wednesday: Cuban black beans
Thursday: Grilled sandwiches
Friday: out
Saturday: out
Sunday: TBD

Two of A's favorites are on the list and I'm realizing that both recipes came from my bff K.  K...you must send more recipes!

2012 calls for some lipstick

In an effort to keep to some new year promises, I'm posting them here.  I love the idea of a fresh start for the new year ahead.  Here goes nothing...

Organize.  I'm always trying to be that person who puts everything away and back into it's place, but sometimes laziness gets the best of me.  This year, in a new house, I am going to try to find a place for everything and put.things.away.  I don't anticipate going crazy with a label-maker (maybe this should be a goal?), but I'd love to feel organized.  I'll tackle some small projects and larger ones.

Pictures.  I need to become better about taking pictures.  While we don't have a great camera (yet!), I have to start taking more when we're out doing things, and even of our everyday ordinary.  Also, I need to frame the pictures that I do have (more than two years past our wedding and not a framed photo in sight!  So sad.).  One goal this year is to create a gallery wall in our family room and hang some other photos.

Relax.  While A may disagree and think I do a little too much relaxing with the Real Housewives, sometimes I need to just take a breather and appreciate everything.  I have a tendency to accumulate stress and in the bigger picture, most of it is just not worth it.  I promise to live more in the moment, appreciate the finer things, and just be.

Walk/Run.  Ahhh...the required exercise resolution.  The goal is simple.  I must walk or run a few times each week.  Even when it's freezing, must bundle up and suck it up or brave the crowds at the gym.  There is a great workout gear wishlist on Fifi Cheek.  (Those adidas shoes will be mine!)

Lipstick.  Must wear more!  (a la the fabulous Carolyn Bessette Kennedy)

Recap: 2011

2011 was a banner year for us with many new beginnings.  We traveled, met our (brand new!) niece, and moved into our first home.

In February, I traveled to Louisiana to see my TWO nieces.  We ooh'ed and ahh'ed over the girls and then helped my SIL pack for her move to the West Coast.  E was just 8 weeks old when I met her and let me tell you...it was love at first sight.

March and April were spent at our construction site, i.e., future home.  This year was extremely stressful (but so satisfying).  I don't think anyone else's construction stories could have prepared us for the experience, but that's another post (or blog!).

We traveled to Spain with our good friends in May & June.  It was an amaaaazing trip.  We started out with a brief stint in Madrid and then traveled on to Seville and Barcelona, and finally capped off our trip with a stay in Mallorca.

In July, we were without a home.  The lease on our apartment ran out and our home was not yet finished.  We moved in with A's Grandma & Grandpa and took a trip to California.  A was BEYOND thrilled to play a round at Pebble Beach while I drank my share of wine and shopped with my sista and, of course, spent some QT with my favorite nieces.  It was an awesome trip and we can't wait to go back this year!

FINALLY, our home was ready when we returned from CA.  It was an easy move since we had moved all of our boxes to G&G's garage the month before.  We've spent the last few months furnishing the place and came up with a never-ending list of to-do's and to-buy's.

We each took a weekend trip to Chicago this fall.  I was able to visit my bestie (newly transplanted from the west coast - yay!) and A went to compete in the Urbanathlon.

December brought our family in for the holidays, but the main event was E's 1st birthday bash.  Check out the inspiration board here!

Overall, an awesome year and I can't wait to see what 2012 has in store.  New Year's Resolutions to come!

moving time...

It's moving week!  Well, we are moving on Saturday...location: TBD.  Our lease is up, our new house is not quite ready, and lucky for us we have lots of relatives nearby who have offered up their homes to share with us.  The lucky winners are G&G!  That means this week is full of packing and cleaning for us, which is not my cup of tea.  I have a feeling Friday may be an all-nighter.  I was tempted to share a picture of our packing-in-process, but really, that scene is not for the faint of heart.

We've been in the building process for what seems like ever, but it is {finally} coming to a close.

Wish us luck, sanity, and coffee over the next week!
